Body Donor Memorial Ceremony

On Monday, August 29 2022, students, faculty, and staff of the Jatai Federal University gathered in Auditorium on the SESC to honor those 
who gave their bodies to science.

Acknowledging their sacrifice and commitment to educate future physicians through their donation has created an incredible foundation for all health professionals, and that cannot be substituted by any textbook, research article, or video. The ceremony was part of the actions of the University Extension Program being developed at UFJ Anatomical Gifts (PG006-2021). It contemplated cultural and bioethical aspects, stimulating critical reflection on the theme of donation. In the cultural aspect, the donation was approached from the discussion of religious leaders of different doctrines, with the participation of Friar Paulo Batista, Reverend Silvio Matheus Lopes, and José Lúcio Vieira Alves representing the Spiritism. In the bioethical aspect, there was the collaboration of a representative of the Brazilian Society of Anatomy, deans, coordinators and professors of public and private Higher Education Institutions, who mentioned the didactic importance of using donated bodies for the study.

In addition to the UFJ's Department of Communication (SECOM), TV Sudoeste, Portal Panorama and radios Sucesso, Kativa FM and Difusora participated in publicizing the event. Funerária Alfaix and the Municipality of Jataí also participated as collaborators in the event, whose Ceremonial team was responsible for conducting the work, in addition to the TV Câmara team, responsible for broadcasting the event live.

During the ceremony, the exhibition it was anounced the TV program Câmara Spirituality and beyonds: the donation of organs and bodies for scientific purposes. The program is part of a partnership between the Laboratory of Human Anatomy at UFJ, the School of Management and Legislative Efficiency (EGEL) and the TV Câmara of the Municipality of Jataí. Interviews will be presented on the opinion of different beliefs and religions on organ donation for scientific purposes. The material is available on the website, on the YouTube channel and on the social networks of the Jataiense legislature.
